"Old World" Crafting Techniques
The techniques that are used in Rocky Mountain Hardware have been in existence for thousands of years. Skilled artisans utilize the same traditional values and methods to create hardware that is elegant and timeless.
Sand-Casting. Sand is applied to the sides of a pattern board. This creates a mold for the melted bronze metal. Once cooled, the product is removed and finished.
Lost-Wax Casting. When a design is more involved, lost-wax casting is often used. This method takes a great deal of time to complete. The wax mold is dipped multiple times in ceramics. Then, it is hardened in kilns. When ready, the melted bronze is poured inside and left to harden.
Top Machinery. Once the casting is finished, the hardware passes through machines that add function.
Hand Finishing. In the studio, artists apply patina by hand, which acts like a fine polish. With age, each piece takes on its environment and receives unique character.
